Aberystwyth:

Aberystwyth is around 45 minutes drive so not too far to spend a day at the beach.

Abbey-Cwm-Hir and its old monastery ruins that date back to the 12th century...

A must see is the Hall at Abbey-Cwm-Hir along with its grounds and gardens.

Powys Castle near Welshpool...

Most of the great Welsh castles were allowed to decay when the medieval wars ended, but Powis survives as an example of a military stronghold which was preserved and renewed by continual occupation. Its fabric contains architecture of many different periods, with a medieval square keep and stone hall.
